How can you revive an old rusted cast iron pan?
I found some old cast iron pans that was in the storage for years, i don’t want to throw it away. They are rusted and it seem like something had dried in it and it’s caked in, how can i revive it and “season” the pan.
You must definetly remove any rust with sand paper. It can be a long hard process. I found an old cast iron skillet at a flea market and the guy just gave it to me because he said it was useless. I took it to a local place that sandblasted it for $2.00.It was cheap compared to the time I would have spent removing all of the rust. Once I got it back I started the process of sealing it with oil. The process took several times in the oven at 350 degress to get it seasoned and then I started to use it. Remember not to use it with acidic foods like tomatoes which will remove the seasoned coating. Never use dish detergent or soap to clean which will also remove the seasoning. I have always coated mine before storage with a thin coat of oil. It is now so seasoned it’s non-stick. I use it almost every day.
