Let’s face it: sometimes having a carpeted floor can be a huge hassle, especially if you have a houseful of kids running around. I used to have my carpet cleaned professionally every few months. I am allergic to dust and I need to keep my surroundings perpetually clean and sanitized. But with three kids, a mortgage, tuition fees and a thousand other bills to pay, we don’t really have the luxury to spend money on expensive professional carpet cleaning.
If you’re in the same boat, don’t fret! Here are five easy steps that will teach you how to clean your carpet all by yourself – with not much effort!
1. Remove all furniture from the carpeted area you want to clean. You can also opt to do it one spot at a time if the room is very big.
2. Vacuum the carpet. This will take out dust bunnies and other particles and reveal covered-up stains.
3. Spray environment-friendly carpet stain remover on the carpet stains. Leave for a few minutes.
4. With a scrub and a bucket of water, rub out the stains from the carpet. If you have a carpet cleaner (you can opt to rent one), run it over the stains back and forth a couple of times in order to take them out.
5. Leave the carpet to dry. You can opt to use a fan to speed up the drying process.
With these five steps, you’re carpet will be fresh and clean once again.
